Bryce Middleton, a resident of Scheller, lost his life due to injuries sustained in a devastating car accident on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the age of 20. The incident claimed two more lives, casting a somber shadow over the community.

Bryce Middleton died: The Incident

On Saturday night at 11:59 p.m., a serious accident occurred at the intersection of E. Dubois Rd. and N. Pulsar Ln. in Scheller, close to Waltonville. According to the Jefferson County Deputies, a 2017 Buick crossed the median and collided head-on with a 2023 Chevrolet, leading to the tragic event. A swift emergency response was initiated, with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office taking charge of the situation. They were assisted by the Waltonville, Woodlawn, and Jefferson Fire Protection Districts, along with Litton’s Ambulance Service and the Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.

The crash claimed the lives of three individuals. Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse identified the victims as Bryce Middleton and his passenger, Hayden Lence, both 20 years old and residents of Herrin. Additionally, the driver of the second vehicle, Joshua Chapman, a 37-year-old from Collinsville, also succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
